Course Overview
People with Parkinson disease present with motor and non-motor symptoms that affect daily functions. This course provides Learners with basic understanding of the movement disorders associated with Parkinson disease and the how the condition may also impact other aspects of life. Basic handling skills will imparted to enable the Learner to assist a Person with Parkinson disease move and exercise in a safe manner.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, the learner is able to:
- Articulate what Parkinson Disease (PD) is in terms of its signs and symptoms
- Describe the degenerative nature of PD in relation to stages of progression
- Recognize side-effects of common PD medications and mitigate risks
- Understand movement disorders that are not PD but share similar parkinsonism features
- Appreciate how PD impacts all aspects life – physical, psychosocial, ADL
- Adopt person-centred holistic disposition in caring for PwPD (Person with PD)
- Apply movement strategies to in mobilizing PwPD
- Assist PwPD to carry out Parkinson-specific exercise programs effectively and safely

Senior Physiotherapist & Senior Trainer, St Luke’s ElderCare
Mr Tom Sedfrey graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy (Philippines) in 2005. He has more than 10 years of working experiences as a practicing physiotherapist in ILTC sector in Singapore. His areas of interest include neurorehabilitation (Stroke & PD) and geriatric rehabilitation.
The full course is $261.60 (including prevailing GST). Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singapore Citizens/Permanent Residents and 45% for work pass holders working in eligible community care organisations.
