Course Overview
Electro-physical agents (EPAs) are modalities that Physiotherapists use to manage pain and promote healing to injured tissues. There are different types of EPAs to treat different conditions. While the risks associated with the use of EPAs are minimal, improper applications can lead to adverse effects. This course imparts basic knowledge and skills for Therapy Assistants to carry out EPA procedures safely on patients, proper monitoring during treatment, review post intervention, and documenting the procedure.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, the learner is able to:
- Articulate what EPA is as an adjunct to Physiotherapy intervention
- Understand the basic physiological effects of heat therapy and electrical stimulation
- Identify 4 common EPA and describe their indications
- List the precautions and contraindications for EPA application
- Adhere to standardized procedure for safe EPA application
- Conduct hot-cold and sharp-dull sensation test
- Apply hot/cold packs to Client safely and effectively
- Apply TENS and NEMS to Client safely and effectively
- Report and document findings on the application of EPA

Mr Atienza Sedfrey Del Moro (Tom)
Senior Physiotherapist & Senior Trainer, St Luke’s ElderCare
Mr Tom Sedfrey graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy (Philippines) in 2005. He has more than 10 years of working experiences as a practicing physiotherapist in ILTC sector in Singapore. His areas of interest include neurorehabilitation (Stroke & PD) and geriatric rehabilitation.
The full course is $130.80 (including prevailing GST). Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singapore Citizens/Permanent Residents and 45% for work pass holders working in eligible community care organisations.
