Course Overview
This course equips Learners with the basic knowledge and skills to plan and implement an exercise program for Older Adults. Learners will understand the importance of exercise and active lifestyle in maintaining health. Learners will be guided to design a holistic exercise class and put in practice to conduct it. Principles on safe administration, monitoring and progression will be discussed.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, the learner is able to:
- Articulate the health benefits of exercise
- List precautionary measures for exercising safely
- Describe the 4 core components of an exercise program
- Understand the principles exercise prescription in terms of FITT-VP
- Understand the concepts for community-based group exercise program (CBGEP)
- Advocate and promote lifestyle patterns essential for healthy aging
- Adopt a holistic approach of varied strategies in planning exercise activities
- Adhere to safe practices when conducting exercises for individuals and groups
- Conduct exercises safely and effectively
- Assist an older person in performing range of motion exercises
- Design and organize an individual / group exercise program for older adults

Mr Atienza Sedfrey Del Moro (Tom)
Senior Physiotherapist & Senior Trainer, St Luke’s ElderCare
Mr Tom Sedfrey graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy (Philippines) in 2005. He has more than 10 years of working experiences as a practicing physiotherapist in ILTC sector in Singapore. His areas of interest include neurorehabilitation (Stroke & PD) and geriatric rehabilitation.
The full course is $392.40 (including prevailing GST). Prevailing course fee subsidy at 90% for Singapore Citizens/Permanent Residents and 45% for work pass holders working in eligible community care organisations.
